Role Overview
This role sits within a Water Solutions portfolio delivering larger and more complex capital projects, including water augmentation, transfer systems, storage, treatment processes, and associated electrical and control systems.
The Design Manager will coordinate end-to-end design development across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and efficiently delivered. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external delivery partners, you will help navigate governance requirements while supporting high-quality project outcomes.
About the Person
You are a capable and detail-oriented engineering professional with experience managing design across complex infrastructure projects. You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a sound understanding of design delivery in capital project environments. You are comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and navigating technical and operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate end-to-end design development across multiple concurrent water infrastructure projects
- Collaborate with internal delivery teams and external partners to achieve safe and efficient design outcomes
- Ensure compliance with technical standards, governance requirements, and relevant design processes
- Oversee multidisciplinary design inputs across civil, mechanical, electrical, and control systems
- Monitor design progress, risks, and dependencies across projects with varying complexity
- Support the development of scopes, design deliverables, and coordination of technical reviews
- Engage with stakeholders to communicate design status, risks, and solutions
- Contribute to the successful delivery of projects within agreed timeframes and governance frameworks
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in design management within water infrastructure or processing environments
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with complex technical requirements
- Strong understanding of design development workflows within capital delivery settings
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, including designers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
- Familiarity with water sector environments, technical standards, or similar utilities (highly regarded)
- Background in water treatment, water transfer, or related infrastructure (highly regarded)
- Understanding of risk management and operational constraints in brownfield or live environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work within structured governance frameworks while maintaining delivery focus
