Harrison McMillan is seeking a Senior Social Media Officer (APS6) to work with a Federal Government Department in Canberra

The Senior Social Media Officer sits within the Communications team and works with areas across the agency to promote the people, work and successes of the agency across multiple social media platforms. The content delivered ensures external stakeholders and general community are aware of who we are and what we do and are informed about the Department is known for.

The role will focus on delivering targeted social media content for the Department in line with our social media and external communications strategies, and to maintain and build trust within the community. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and creative thinker who can work cooperatively to enhance our social media platforms.

The Senior Social Media Officer works directly with the Assistant Director of Communications to create and publish innovative and creative content to increase awareness, growth and engagement across our platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube.

Deliverables

  • Managing all aspects of the agency’s social media channels

  • Driving engagement and visibility in line with the agency’s Social Media and External Communications strategies

  • End-to-end creation of engaging content using a range of content types such as image tiles and video as well as drafting of caption text

  • Evaluation of social media content and campaigns via monitoring, moderating, engagement and regular reporting using analytics

  • Providing social media advice and liaising with internal and external stakeholders in the development of content

  • Ensuring that communications are accurate, clear, and complete; correct in terms of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and editorial style; and that they maintain a consistent tone and voice

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications or digital technologies and/or equivalent experience in these fields

  • A practical understanding and knowledge of social media creation, publishing, management of responses and analysing channel performance for a government agency or other organisation

  • Experience in videography i.e. filming and editing video content for social media platforms as well as image content tiles, using programs such as the Adobe suite. Envato and/or Canva

  • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality digital content tailored to different audiences and ranging in content and complexity

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work both under direction and autonomously to achieve results with initiative

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a busy workload with competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines to achieve results in a reactive environment

This role is a 12-month contract.
