Risk Advisor

Immediate opportunity for an experienced Risk Advisor to join a collaborative governance team on a short-term contract, supporting strategic and operational risk initiatives within a dynamic organisation.

About the Company
Our client is a well-regarded organisation within the public sector, focused on delivering strong outcomes for the community. Operating in a complex and evolving environment, they value collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across governance and risk functions.

Role Overview
This is a hands-on Risk Advisor role focused purely on risk (no business continuity), supporting both strategic and operational risk activities across the organisation.
You will play a key role in maintaining momentum across existing risk frameworks, facilitating risk assessments, and supporting legislative reporting requirements. Working closely with the Governance and Risk team, you will engage with stakeholders to ensure risks are effectively identified, managed, and communicated.
This is a fast-moving environment, and you will need to confidently step in, facilitate discussions, and provide clear, practical advice to keep risk initiatives progressing.

About the Person
You are a confident and capable Risk Advisor who can quickly build credibility and “hit the ground running.” You bring strong knowledge of risk frameworks (ideally within local government) and are comfortable facilitating conversations, leading discussions, and presenting to stakeholders.
You are proactive, adaptable, and able to work both strategically and operationally, with the confidence to operate independently while being supported by an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain strategic and operational risk frameworks
  • Facilitate risk assessments, including ad-hoc reviews across business units
  • Provide practical risk advice and guidance to stakeholders
  • Assist with legislative and governance reporting requirements
  • Engage and collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive risk outcomes
  • Present risk insights and recommendations with confidence
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of risk processes and practices

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks and their practical application
  • Experience facilitating risk discussions and engaging stakeholders
  • Ability to operate confidently in both strategic and operational risk environments
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience within local government (highly desirable)
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
  • Knowledge of legislative and reporting frameworks
  • National Police Check required
