Role Overview
Reporting functionally to the Director of Quality - Marine, with a local line of report to the Pacific General Manager. The Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring all supplied components and assemblies meet stringent quality, safety and regulatory requirements for marine safety-critical products.
Initially focused on supplier quality, this role will evolve in line with the business strategy and will be integral to the development of local manufacturing capability for future programs. You will work closely with suppliers, engineering, procurement and manufacturing teams to drive compliance, continuous improvement and robust quality assurance across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, audit and approve suppliers against defence, customer and quality standards (ISO 9001, SSQAC, MAN002).
- Develop and implement quality plans including PPAP, FMEA, control plans and FAIRS.
- Manage supplier non-conformances, concessions, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Drive supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, delivery and cost.
- Provide technical guidance on manufacturing processes, inspections, testing and compliance requirements (e.g. NDT, welding, welding processes, pressure testing).
- Ensure all supplier documentation and quality records meet defence and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement and project teams to align supplier quality with project milestones.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Quality Engineer or Quality Manager role.
- Experience in supplier quality within defence, aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems.
- Experience with quality validation methods including audits, PPAP and FAIRS.
- Proven capability in root cause analysis, problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and inspection reports.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with safety-critical valve and actuator manufacturing.
- Knowledge of naval marine standards.
- Exposure to advanced quality tools (APQP, FMEA, PPAP, FAIR, 8D, process capability).
- Engineering degree or relevant technical qualifications.
