Payroll Officer

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for a full-time, short-term contract role, commencing ASAP. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, high-performing team delivering payroll services in a large, complex environment.

Role Overview
Reporting to an Operational Team Leader, you will be part of a busy payroll team responsible for end-to-end payroll processing and employee lifecycle changes. The role involves handling payroll data, maintaining employee records, and resolving payroll related queries while ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.

You are a detail-oriented and reliable payroll professional who thrives in a high-volume environment. You bring strong communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.


Key Responsibilities
  • Process payroll files and support pay-related processes
  • Perform payroll data entry and maintenance
  • Manage new starters, contract changes, allowances, and transfers
  • Process timesheets, leave applications, and backpay calculations
  • Respond to and resolve payroll queries via phone and email
  • Monitor shared inboxes and escalate complex issues as required
  • Work to strict deadlines while maintaining high accuracy
  • Contribute to team targets and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous experience in payroll and/or HR/contract administration
  • Strong data entry skills (minimum 40 wpm)
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience in customer service, ideally within a call centre environment
  • Experience with payroll systems (Chris21 desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage high workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Current National Police Clearance (mandatory)
