Harrison McMillan is seeking a Data Engineer (EL1 equivalent) to work with a Federal Government Department in Canberra.
Job details The Database Management and Dynamics Section (DBM) within IMD manage on-premises and Azure/AWS Microsoft Power Platforms and Microsoft Fabric. As part of IMDs Cloud first and application modernisation strategies, there are several business-critical applications with very large datasets currently in the stage of development to move to the Cloud.

Duties

  •  Design, develop, and deploy interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
  •  Build and manage enterprise semantic models using Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse.
  •  Develop and optimize data models using DAX and Power Query (M language).
  •  Implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Fabric Data Factory.
  •  Work with Lakehouse architecture leveraging Delta tables.
  •  Familiarity notebooks and data transformations within Fabric environments.
  •  Implement row-level security (RLS) and data governance best practices.
  •  Perform Power BI Service administration including tenancy settings, capacity management, and workspace   governance.
  •  Implement and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) across workspaces, apps, datasets and Fabric   artifacts.
  •  Optimize performance of reports, datasets, and queries.
  •  Collaborate with data engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into   analytics solutions.
  •  Perform license assignment and optimisation strategies based on user roles and usage patterns.
  •  Support CI/CD deployment pipelines for BI artifacts.
  •  Ensure data quality, accuracy, and documentation standards.
  •  Experience with trade and statistical analysis software.
  •  Manage gateway configurations and on-premises connectivity.
Essential
  • 5+ Years in a similar role
  • Strong proficiency in DAX / Power Query (M) / SQL
  • Experience with Data modelling / Delta Lake architecture / Dataflows Gen / Fabric pipelines
  • Knowledge of Azure ecosystem (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Entra Key Vault)
  • Experience implementing RLS and security best practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Licensing, Role and Power BI Tenancy Administration

Desirable

  • Azure and DevOps: Experience with DevOps processes and tools such as Azure DevOps and Git Azure SQL Databases
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory)
This role is based in Canberra and required a NV1 clearance
