Role Overview
The City Design Lead will be responsible for strategic design initiatives across the City of Unley.
Responsible for the future planning and design of public space opportunities, this 5-year contract position will lead projects that shape how people experience places and spaces throughout Unley. The position will work closely with internal teams, consultants, elected members and the community to help guide design thinking and future city outcomes.
About the Person
The successful candidate will bring experience across urban design, landscape architecture, placemaking or related built environment disciplines, along with strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability.
Strong design thinking, collaboration skills and the ability to work across complex projects and stakeholder environments will be highly regarded, along with the ability to balance strategic thinking with practical and community focused outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to strategic urban design initiatives (streetscape, main streets, parks, sports facilities and community infrastructure)
- Support place activation and public realm opportunities
- Develop concepts and future-focused project ideas
- Facilitate stakeholder and community engagement
- Coordinate consultants and project inputs
- Prepare reports, presentations and strategic advice
- Background in urban design, landscape architecture or similar
- Experience across placemaking or strategic design projects
- Strong communication and engagement capability
- Ability to think conceptually and strategically
- Experience working across collaborative project environments
