Harrison McMillan is seeking an Assistant Director Governance and Ministerial (EL1) to work with a Federal Government Department in Canberra

Job details

The Governance and Risk team coordinates ministerial, risk, assurance and corporate reporting activities. This team engages the Audit and Risk Committee and the internal audit service provider, developing the Portfolio Budget Statements, annual stakeholder survey, corporate plan, annual performance statement and annual report. They manage the internal policies and procedures advancing the positive risk culture in the agency.

The Assistant Director Governance and Ministerial is responsible for providing strategic support, direction and leadership to the Departments Management and Staff in governance and risk related matters with a particular focus on the agency’s parliamentary functions and the development and maintenance of the Governance Framework.

Deliverables

  • working collaboratively as a key member of Corporate Branch and in partnership across business areas to assist with the management and operations of the agency

  • working with the Director Governance and Risk to coordinate and supervise daily Governance operations

  • managing the process and coordination of parliamentary matters for the Agency

  • managing the coordination and improvement of the Departments governance framework to ensure that appropriate systems of corporate governance are operating effectively within the Department

  • working collaboratively as a key member of the Strategy, International Policy and Corporate Division and in partnership across business areas and staff to assist with the management and operations of the agency

  • assisting to manage the Governance budget and monitoring expenses

  • filing records in accordance with Commonwealth Government requirements for records management processes and security, including management and maintenance of document recording systems

  • fulfilling duties as assigned by the Director Governance and Risk

Essential criteria

  • strong leadership and people management ability, including highly effective communication, interpersonal, representational and negotiation skills

  • proven strategic thinking with strong analytical skills and the ability to provide insights as well as rigorous analysis to priority issues

  • extensive experience in successfully managing complex and competing workloads to a high standard

  • proven ability to work independently or under limited guidance and exercise judgement to make decisions (in consultation as required) with integrity, initiative, drive and adaptability

  • desirable experience in parliamentary documents and/or document management systems.

This role is a 12-month non-ongoing opportunity.
