Harrison McMillan is seeking an Accounts Payable Officer (APS4) to work with a Federal Government Department in Canberra.

Role Overview
The APS4 Accounts Payable Officer will play a key role in providing accurate and efficient financial processing services within a high-volume environment. Working as part of a geographically dispersed team, you will ensure timely and compliant processing of invoices, contribute to continuous improvement, and support the department’s financial operations across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, a methodical approach to problem solving, and the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines. You’ll be confident following established procedures while remaining adaptable to shifting tasks and demands. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and verify invoices accurately and efficiently within established timeframes
  • Apply sound judgement in determining appropriate processing pathways and resolving issues
  • Maintain compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and financial frameworks
  • Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders and suppliers to resolve payment queries
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and team collaboration
  • Support the delivery of high-quality AP services within a geographically dispersed environment

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced Accounts Payable processing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-volume setting
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing requirements
  • Experience with Tech One (desirable)
  • Prior APS or Federal Government experience (highly regarded)
This role will be a 6-month contract and is located in Canberra.
