Announced in July last year, there are a few months left to take advantage of the $10,000 incentive to hire new talent into your business, before the end of the financial year.
Here’s how it works:
- The $10,000 incentive is open to employers that are liable for payroll tax in SA, and who also have a taxable wage bill between $600,000 and $5 million in the financial year immediately preceding the year in which they wish to claim the grant;
- To qualify you need to register the new employee with Revenue SA within 90 days of the new employee commencing work;
- The $10,000 incentive is for full-time employees, so the grant will be paid on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees;
- If your wage bill is under the $600,000, you can qualify for a $4000 incentive.
The fine print:
The grant is paid in two instalments over a period of two years, with the first instalment payable on the employee’s first work anniversary, and the second instalment on their second anniversary.
While it’s a catch of sorts, this ensures businesses are rewarded for not only hiring, but also retaining talent.
It’s also a good incentive to hire the right people the first time around.
